UACE kicks off: UNEB Cautions Schools Against Malpractice By David Omuget Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) candidates have begun writing their examination papers today starting with History for the Arts students and Mathematics for the science candidates. This year’s candidature stands at 110,569 registered candidates as compared to 97,889 last year indicating a percentage increase of 11.4% . The females constitute 43% (47,227) while the males 57% (631,342). The upper prison Luzira has registered 34 candidates of whom 4 are females and the rest of the 30 are males. Candidates with special needs are 243 in total with only 70 requiring support personnel. EAC agrees to setup a regional satellite By David Omuget East African countries under the Northern corridor integration projects (NCIPs) have agreed to set up a regional satellite. This decision was arrived at during a joint ministerial meeting of ICT infrastructure development held on 9th November 2023 in Nairobi Kenya. “The minister agreed to fast track the modalities of establishing a regional owned satellite for communication that will provide high quality, dependable broadband internet services and broadcasting capabilities” read in part the joint communiqué that was issued to the ministers. The meeting was attended by Uganda’s ICT minister Hon Chris Baryomunsi who chaired the Gathering. Other dignitaries were his Kenyan counterpart Hon Eluid Owalo, Hon Michael Makuei Lueth from the Republic of South Sudan and Hon Gordon Kalema from the Republic of Rwanda. Hand over office stamps-FDC roars

By David Omuget The Forum for Democratic Change FDC has asked all old FDC chairpersons and District General secretaries to hand over party district stamps to the newly elected chairperson and general secretaries with immediate effect In a circular singed by the secretary General of the Najjanankubi faction Nathan Nandala Mafabi, districts that are yet to elect new leaders were also directed to return the stamps to his office at the party Headquarters in Najjanankubi not later than Friday 17th, November 2023 He noted that officers who will fail to adhere to this circular risk being liable for criminal charges of illegal possession of party stamps. FDC recently held structure elections for district and national leaders and new leaders have since assumed office. However, it is alleged that some former leaders especially those opposed to the Najjanankumbi group (Katonga faction members) are still refusing to handover party assets.

Seven arrested over armed robbery By David Omuget Following a number of armed robberies in Kagadi District, a joint intelligence led by SP Opio Patrick DPC Kagadi has apprehended seven suspects in relation to possession of an illegal firearm. The suspects are private Kato Ivan an army deserter who was attached to Mountain Division Headquarters, Aliganyira Richard, Fina Patrick, Luweza Chris, Kyaligonza Yasin alias Boy, Agaba Januarious and Katusabe Natasha. Police also recovered several items which include one rifle AK 47 which will be submitted to ballistic experts for analysis, one magazine with four rounds, three pairs of camouflage uniform and three camouflage army jackets. It is alleged that the said group was being commanded by Private Kato Ivan and they have been operating mostly in Kagadi District and that their hideout was Service Point bar managed by Januarious.
